Norson, the Smithfield Foods IOC in Mexico, won the National Exports Award, the highest recognition given to companies that demonstrate outstanding quality, effort, creativity and commitment in promoting Mexican products abroad. The award also recognizes Norson’s commitment and to its community and the preserving the environment.

Norson received the award from Mexico’s President Felipe Calderon on October 24th in the city of Aguascalientes. As part of the celebrations, the governor of Sonora State was invited to Norson headquarters on November 12th to unveil the commemorative plaque. The event was also attended by Sonora’s ministers of economy and agriculture.

Norson was founded under the name Alto more than 30 years ago and began exporting to markets such as the U.S., Japan and South Korea in the early 1990s. Alto joined the Smithfield Foods family in 1999, giving birth to Norson and a successful partnership. Norson has been the No. 1 pork producer and exporter in Mexico for the past three years.
