Animex, Smithfield Foods’ Polish subsidiary, received an award on May 14 from Newsweek Poland for its significant contributions to the country’s economy and to US-Polish relations. Other recipients of the award were former U.S. President George H.W. Bush, former President of Poland Lech Walesa and Fiat Motor Company.

The company received the award for having the largest number of employees of any U.S. company in Poland. It was presented by American Chamber of Commerce Chairman Roman Renvald and Newsweek Poland Chief Editor Michal Kobosko. Also in attendance were former presidents Bush and Walesa, who won individual awards for their contributions to U.S.-Polish relations, and U.S. Ambassador Vincent Ashe.

Animex was acquired by Smithfield Foods in 1999. It is the largest meat and poultry processing company in Poland and sells a wide range of products that are popular throughout Europe. The company is best-known in the U.S. market for its famed Krakus brand ham, imported by Krakus Foods International.

Congratulations to all 8,750 Animex employees on receiving this prestigious award.
