Scholarship opportunities will be available once again this year from the Smithfield-Luter Foundation to the children and grandchildren of all Smithfield employees. The selected colleges and universities include Wake Forest University, Iowa State University, Johnson & Wales University and Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University (Virginia Tech). Below, you will find more information detailing the scholarship opportunities. Once accepted to any of the selected universities, the student may apply for the scholarship through the university's financial aid office. The scholarships are only awarded to students who have been accepted to one of the selected universities and who demonstrate a financial need. Decisions on acceptance to the universities will be made solely by the admissions office at each university.
The amount of each scholarship is determined by each of the school's financial aid offices. The scholarships will be in an amount not to exceed the cost of tuition, course-related fees, books, supplies and equipment for the student.
Students who receive a Smithfield-Luter Foundation scholarship will be free to pursue any course of study that they choose. However, preference will be given to students who demonstrate an interest in business, environmental preservation or animal husbandry, which are very important issues to Smithfield Foods, Inc.
All questions regarding the scholarship program related to the individual schools should be directed to the following university contacts:
All of the university contacts are more than willing to help answer any questions that you may have. This program has been a great opportunity for Smithfield employees and their families and it continues to grow.
